I hope this brief book will be helpful to all who are so concerned, but especially those who have been given the task, to use a common but perhaps rather unhelpfully military term, 'recruitment'. That is to say, those who have been asked by the Church to identify possible candidates for ministry in the priesthood and/or religious life and to walk with them the path of discernment about whether they are truly called by God or not (from introduction). I envisage Vocations and What to do with Them as offering suggestions about how to organize that discernment and about the areas which it is helpful to cover in the discernment. I offer ways of delving into these areas through Useful Questions to ask: to put to the candidate as well as questions the vocations director (henceforth referred to simply as “the director’) might ask him or herself.
