Priests, Brothers, sisters and all those who work with Vocations, will welcome this simple and clear explanation of what consecrated life is all about. This booklet is also for parents and young people to help them understand the terms 'Religious life' and 'consecrated life' when we talk about Religious Life, we are referring to persons who are called by Christ to follow him more closely as Religious Priests, Brothers and Sisters and they profess the three vows of Chastity, poverty and obedience. They are consecrated by God and belong entirely to him, and usually live in a community with a mission to fulfill. Consecrated Life, on the other hand, is much broader. It is a gift by Christ who chooses a person individually to respond to his great love in a special relationship. He asks that person to leave some aspects of the world (such as marriage and secular goals) to put themselves at the service of their brothers and sisters. Diocesan priests and bishop are consecrated, even though they do not belong to a religious congregation.
