How does the Church in the AMECEA region address the practical challenges of implementing synodality?
The synodal journey, initiated by Pope Francis in October 2021,
has deepened the Church’s understanding of New Testament practices: praying, listening to the Holy Spirit and one another, and discerning together actions for the mission, rooted in God’s Word.
Building on Vatican II’s Lumen Gentium (1964), which endorsed the synodal style as essential for Church renewal, the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops (2024) clarified the meaning of synodality in word and concrete actions.
For the Church in the AMECEA region, two critical questions emerged:
· How do we foster this new way of being Church?
· What tools exist for training people to integrate synodal practices into local Churches, Religious congregations, and ecclesial movements?
Based on the Synod’s Final Document, For A Synodal Church: Communion, Mission and Participation, this Synodality Formation Manual equips trainers and synod teams to foster inclusivity, dialogue, and ecclesial discernment.
Pope Leo XIV encourages us: “We want to be a synodal Church that walks together, always seeking peace, charity, and closeness, especially to those who suffer” (8 May 2025).
