Saul was born around they year 10AD, in the Roman Province of Cilicia, in the capacity city, Tarsus. His parents were Jewish so he was circumcised on the eighth day after his birth. The family was strict in their observances of the Law of Moses. As a child, Saul was greatly influenced by the rich culture of his parents and his environment. In fact Tarsus was a city where a never-ending parade of wealth and industry was displayed. It was also famous for its businesses and entertainment of city life, its trades and commerce, its government, its defence forces, and its games. Through his parents, Saul had the privilege of being Roman citizen, which gave him legal privileges that later would be used to facilitate his journeys and his ministry for Jesus in the Roman world. In his youth, Saul learned about Jewish religion, its traditions, and its customs. His parents sent him to study Jewish Law and Hebrews Scripture in Jerusalem. Saul did the same things the young people of this day enjoyed doing. He went for regular instructions offered at the Synagogue. With his father, Saul mastered the art of tent making which would later become the means of his livelihood while engaged in his missionary work. He studied under Gamaliel, one of the highly respected teachers of the law at that time. Saul was a very good student.
