In this second volume, Francesco Pierli and various authors take a historical approach to social ministry in Africa, situating it in between the two moments of grace for the African church given by the to African synods. Without a well-developed social ministry in Africa the evangelisation process for the continent and the missionary activity in it will be as the African Synod says "irrelevant" since the issue of justice-and-peace are paramount. The theme of justice and peace remains at the core of social ministry, as it did in both African Synods. Here the different contributing authors present reflections in three parts:

1)The developing urgency for peace building and conflict transformation, and the developing urgency for peace growing number of lay social ministers and the challenges they encounter in the face of a secularising social environment.

2) Reflections on the issue of training and educating for social transformation and how to move forward in the area of sustainability of social ministry initiatives; and,

3)Testimonies by students, lecturers and partners in ministry about their journey towards a more peaceful and just world.
