In the Academic Year 2010-2011 the Tangaza University College celebrated its Silver Jubilee under the motto: Proclaiming the Good News in Joyful Service and Hope. The College had every reason to celebrate this special occasion in view of its tremendous expansion in scope and numbers. The College has grown from humble beginnings in 1986 with 20 students belonging to one Institute to its current status with around 1200 students, with eight Schools/Institutes/ Centres. The school of Theology is the Largest among its Institutes, with 452 students. In Order to celebrate this Silver Jubilee in an academic way the College invited its lecturers to contribute articles with the theme: The Catholic University in the 21st Century. In this special issue of the Tangaza Occasional Papers the Contributions in the first part have been written from theological view point. In the second part the articles from the social science point out the role of a Catholic University in the context of Africa, probing the contribution, challenges, and way forward to improve her social  contribution. In particular they point out the transformative role, their relevance within the community in which they operate, the research components to address the challenges in the society and among marginalized communities, among others.
