Mother Teresa's real name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She was the daughter of Mr Nikola Bojaxhiu and Mrs Dranafile (commonly known as Drana). Agnes was the youngest of three children. She was born on the 26th August, 1910, in Skopje, Yugoslavia. Her parents were both Albanians but originally from Prizen, which at Agnes' birth was part of Yugoslavia.  Agnes received her firt holy Communion when she was five years old and was confirmed in November 1916. After her first Holy Communion, Agnes burned with love for souls. Her mother influenced her character by her kindness and generosity to the poor. Agnes was first educated in a school sponsored by the sisters and later went to a government school. Teresa made her first profession on 24th May 1931. Her first assignment was in the community of Calcutta. There she taught at St Mary's School, a Loreto Girls School in Darjeeling. Sr. Teresa drew closer to the suffering poor each day as she ministered to them.
