The Martyrs of Paimol, Jildo Irwa and David Okelo, lived and died at a time when their society was being subjected to traumatic changes. They probably hardly realised the full significance of what was taking place under their very eyes, young teenagers as they were. However, they faced events much bigger than themselves without losing their integrity. They are now displayed as models for the Catholic Church because of their faithfulness and courage. Their country had been colonised, a fact which ordinary people found irksome, but whose far reaching consequences none of them probably fully grasped.
