MARIO COLUSSI was born in Cape Town in 1940 and educated by the Marist Brothers at St. Joseph's College, Rondebosch. After joining the Brothers, he did a first degree in science (Natal) and a masters in Education (Witwatersrand). For twenty years he taught high school physical science, Mathematics and Religion in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. During this period he wrote for education journals, Lectured at conferences for science teachers and was an examiner in physical science for the Joint Matriculation Board of South Africa. Subsequently, he taught English, Mathematics and biblical studies in two of the former "indepedent homelands" and spent a year studying spirituality at the Gregorian University in Rome. For most of the nineties he was stationed at the Marist International Centre in Nairobi forming young Brothers and Sisters as religious and teachers. He also lectured in education and catechetics at three other Catholic tertiary institutions in the city. Currently back in South Africa, he promotes the Marist educational style and supports religious education teachers in the Brothers' schools. In recent years, he enrolled as a part time student at St Augustine College, Johannesburg and completed the M.Phil.(Theology) degree for which Jesus as Teacher in the Gospel of Mark was approved as a research project.
