Fired with an extra-ordinary zeal, Francis blaze the trail of the Gospel far across the sub-continent of India. He left Rome the next day, and then after months of travelling and waiting, Francis set sail from Libson, Portugal, in 1541, on a voyage that would take 13 months. He eventually was to go by himself, without a Jesuit companion. He was the first Jesuit missionary, Sea voyage in those days were far different from the modern ocean liners. On the journey, Francis stopped in Malindi, (East Africa) Mozambique, South Africa, and then proceeded to Goa, India. He would never again see his homeland Spain, neither would he see Ignatius nor Rome again.
