God has spoken to us. This is a sign of his love for us. He revealed to us the mysteries of his infinite Being. He revealed his loving plan for our salvation. He enlightens and strengthens us by his word. But, more than that God puts the proper words on our lips, and the proper thoughts and feelings we need in our mind and heart when entering into a conversation with him. We find many prayers in the Holy Scriptures. In fact, one of its 73 books is entirely made up of prayers. That is the Book of the Palms. This is certainly a great gift God grants us to facilitate an intimate relationship of love He is expecting of us.

The Psalms help us in various situations of life

As the Psalms are God's word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, (cf. 2 Tm 3: 16), we have in them a guarantee that they show us the true and authentic way of conversing with him. Moreover, there are Psalms of different types meant to suit us in all situations of life. Whether we are in joy or sorrow, if we need to ask for help, or thank God for a grace received, we can always find a psalm to fit for our need. In times of Joy, we can use hymns to the greatness and power of our creator- the  Psalms of praise or those composed to honour a king, the Royal or Messianic Psalms.
