It is true that the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church. The same day that Mukasa was martyred, 15th November 1885, Lwanga was baptised by Fr Giraud and took a new name, "Charles." That same day, he was entrusted to take care of the pages. This young man of twenty-four, strengthened by his baptism took over from Mukasa and led the young Christian pages, sustaining their faith and virtue by word and example, and within a few months, leading them to martyrdom. Charles Lwanga inspired the pages to stay together no matter what happened. Whatever Kabaka Mwanga might do to them, they would not be afraid. Better death than the loss of their souls just to please him.
