Catherine learned from the lives of the saints the love for silence and solitude of the desert in order to become free to pray. In imitating these friends of God Catherine longed for the "desert" experience (A PLACE ISOLATED FROM PEOPLE WITH A QUITE ATMOSPHERE). The vision at St Dominic's Church had impressed a profound image on the life of Catherine. She had given her heart to God, having only one desire: to love God and to make him loved. For her this earth was a lonely exile without any beauty to charm her. She understood very well the truth of St Augustine's words: "You have made us for yourself O Lord, and our hearts can find no rest until they rest in you.
