In the eyes of the people, Bakanja always showed himself respectable and of a gentle character, yet strong in his Christian convictions. Prayer and the recitation of the rosary nourished his unshakeable faithfulness. The scapular was a visible sign of his love for Jesus and Mary whom he continually invoked in prayers of praise and supplication. Like St Paul, Bakanja's moto was, "Nothing can separate me from the love of Christ!"
