When there is a terminally ill patient in the family, pain presents itself in the most tragic and desperate ways. Many questions arise and the answer are difficult to find. Is it right for terminally ill persons to know their condition? Is it not better to hide the truth from them ? Is it wise, that in the name of helping the patients, one takes the risk of their lives falling apart together with that of the rest of the family? So then, should the patient be left, abandoned, (since there is nothing that one can do anyway) to die in hospital? And if one decides to help him/her at home, what needs to be done, and how? Is it possible to remain strong before one's pain? Is it proper to sedate the patient, even if the consequences are that the person looses consciousness? And who can help us to find answers to all the radical questions asked, especially when the dying person is young?
