For us Catholics, a funeral is a sacred feast. We accompany our deceased relative of friends on their last trip. We do not abandon them after their death but stand by them praying: "Loving Father in heaven, accept our friends in your glory, have mercy on them and give them eternal life and rest." I, your Bishop Oswald, am worried, however, what is happening at some places in our diocese of Umtata. I experinced funerals which for me became an ugly show of money, pomp and worldy glory. They became a scandal for me.
