The Gospel of Luke shows us the ministry of Jesus. Luke's second book, the Acts of the Apostles, shows us the ministry of the early Church. There is a unity between the two books, and that unity is provided by the idea of mission. This Book investigates the many links between the two volumes of Luke. Beginning with the idea of mission in the Infancy Narratives, It covers the ministry of John the Baptist, The Galilean ministry of Jesus, and finally the Jerusalem ministry. In Acts, the apostles themselves receive the Holy spirit, and go forth as, basically, witnesses to he resurrection of Jesus.  The book traces this mission which is marked by three main stages: first, the celebration of Pentecost; second, the martyrdom of Stephen and the persecution that follows; and third, the ministry of Paul. Gradually the presence of the apostles fades away and the second generation of Christianity, represented by Paul, comes to the fore. This book is a welcome tool for all in ministry. An awareness of the continuity between Luke's two books will deepen our awareness of Mission as central to being a Christian and will enhance our practical commitment.
