Fatima is now famous as the Portuguese village where apparitions of Our Lady took place 1917. It takes its name from one of the daughters of the Muslim king who was ruling in the Iberian Peinsula in the 7th century. The village is situated in the centre of Portugal, 125k north of Lisbon, the capital. It is a parish belonging to the Diocese of Leiria/Fatima, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Ourem. The events we shall read about here happened in a small place called Cova da Iria, 3km north of Fatima. Near to that place there is a small village called Aljustrel, and it was here that our three little shepherds were born. The great message of Fatima comes from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the mother of Gd. It is unurgent call to prayer and sacrifice, especially through medication on the mysteries of the Rosary.
