This booklet presents a summary and pastoral application of Pope Francis's first Apostolic Exhortation entitled The Joy of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudium), published in 2013. The aim of the booklet is to make it easier for people, both pastors and laity, to grasp the message of the papal document and to apply it to their contexts. This booklet is not meant to replace the original document. Each contribution in this booklet consists of these parts: the summary of what the Pope says in a specific section of the document, pastoral application and significant quotes. It is recommended that the readers take time to consider how Pope Francis' message can be brought to bear on the concrete challenges and opportunities of their respective communities. The pastoral applications presented in this booklet are to be regarded as suggestions; each community should feel free to explore other issues that may be more pertinent than those indicated in this pastoral resource.
